Ciaran lives in County Clare. He is a full-time student and works on a part-time basis. He has been driving for the past few years and is an EV user for the past 2 years. The running costs and improvements in technology were some of the factors which motivated Ciaran to purchase an EV. He has a daily 110km commute which includes both motorway and dual carriageway driving.

What vehicle are you currently driving?
Nissan Leaf 24 kw – it is a great vehicle with impressive comfort and technology – range is an issue though.

What do you consider to be the benefits of driving an Electric Vehicle?
Costs – I have saved about 50% on my weekly commute, EV’s have better technology and they are better for the environment.

Vehicle range and the purchase cost of the vehicle.

What are your thoughts on the supporting infrastructure?
It is very insufficient. For some journeys you might need to opt for public transport or borrow an ICE vehicle.

Is there any advice you would offer to someone considering an Electric Vehicle?
Spend the extra money on a car with better range – it is definitely worth it.
