As the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging hub opens is unveiled in Glasgow and Tesla opens 15 of its supercharger sites across the UK to non-Tesla vehicles new reports indicate that EVs are improving driver behaviour. We take a look back at some of the industry news stories from the past week.

First Bus launches UK’s largest EV charging hub in Glasgow

First Bus has revealed that Glasgow is now home to the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging centre with the transformation of it’s Caledonia depot. The centre will allow 150 of the company’s vehicles to be charged simultaneously and will the facility will be made available to other business during the day when the buses are out on service.

£25 million EV competition launched by Innovate UK

Innovated UK as announced details of a new funding competition to support the research and development of the most promising, innovative and sustainable battery technologies. Up to £25 million will be invested in a range of innovative projects which can deliver technology which will impact on the automotive sector within the next decade.

Tesla opens supercharger sites to all electric vehicles

Following similar launches in other European markets, Tesla has opened 15 of its UK supercharger sites to drivers of other electric vehicle brands to support large scale EV adoption in the UK. The company has reassured existing Tesla owners that they will continue to be able to use the stations as they always have and the company expects to accelerate expansion of the supercharger network within the next two years.

‘Van plan’ needed to help get electric vans on the road

According to new research published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), more than half of van owners are discouraged from switching to an electric van due to fears over the availability of public charging infrastructure. Although 88% of owners surveyed reveal they will transition to electric van use by 2035, the SMMT said government commitments along with other stakeholder pledges were needed to get electric vans on the road.

Visa and Just Charge announce new partnership to boost EV charging

According to the Central Statistics Office one in every five new cars purchased in Ireland between January and April was either a battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with 6,748 vehicle sales in comparison with just 3,026 over the same period in 2021.

New data suggests that EVs improve driver behaviour

Birmingham based DMN logistics have revealed that following new research, driving electric and hybrid cars is changing drive behaviour for the better. Data collected by the company of their drivers found that delivers of electric vehicles incurred no notices of intended prosecution related to speeding offences whereas tradition ICE cars and vans continued to incur such notices.
