As the Irish Government launches a new office for Zero Emission vehicles (ZEVI), legacy automakers and new industry titans announce plans to scale up production. The latest update from the UK’s Department for Transport continues to highlight huge variations in charge point provision across the regions and a new report suggests that EV charge points can increase the value of property by up to 5%.

Department for Transport reveals latest charge point numbers

The UK’s Department for Transport has announced that as of 1st July 2022, there were a total of 32,011 public charging devices available across the UK or which 5,974 were rapid chargers. The numbers represented a 9% increase, with rising number of charge points in all regions with the exception of Northern Ireland where the numbers reduced by 20 over the previous quarter.

Home-owners adding value to their property with EV charging facilities

A new report by RegCarCheck asserts that home owners across the UK are adding up to 5% to the value of their property through the installation of an electric vehicle charge point. The report found that the average UK property was valued at £292,000 and this rises to £306,300 for properties with EV charging facilities in place.

EVs overtake petrol on BVRLA leasing fleet

According to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association, EVs accounted for 32% of new vehicle orders in the first half of 2022 overtaking petrol powered vehicles for the first time as motorists continue to make the switch to zero-emission motoring. The BVRLA forecast that this will increase a further 40% over the next 12 months.

BMW doubles EV sales in first half of 2022

The BMW Group has revealed that its global sales of battery electric vehicles in both the BMW and Mini brands doubled in the first half of 2022 with 75,891 vehicles sold. The company plan to more than double the sales of its electric vehicle range over the course of 2022.

Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland launches new supports for EV ownership

Republic of Ireland Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan has launched the new Zero Emission Vehicle Ireland office and with it a suite of new grants and initiatives to facilitate the transition to electric vehicle use. The new initiatives announced include grants for apartment residents and owners to apply for the home charger scheme, while also home-owners regardless of EV ownership can now apply to the scheme which will offer up to €600 off the cost of a Smart Charger.

VW unveils 24/7 EV charging solution to ensure renewable energy use

Volkswagen (VW) in collaboration with Energy Web will develop a new smart charging solution which will give EV drivers access to real-time electricity consumption date to provide assurances that vehicles are charged with green energy. The solution can dictate the date and time of the charging and combine it with the desired level of charge and ensure that it taps into local renewable energy sources.

Ford to scale up production of EVs to 600,000 by end of 2023

Ford has announced that it intends to scale up production of its electric vehicle range to 600,000 global units by the end of next year and will follow a multi-channel approach with a strong dealer presence to connect with new customers. The company plans to invest $50 billion in EVs between now and 2026 and the company is on track to be fully electric in Europe by 2035.
