EVTalk Rewind: EV Charging in Northern Ireland

What was widely expected to be one of the most important discussions in the EV Talk webinar series certainly lived up to expectations, as over 200 people from across the UK and Ireland registered for the December webinar which looked exclusively at the public charging situation in Northern Ireland.

Hosted once again by Dr Euan McTurk, panellists discussed the origins of Northern Ireland’s charging network and the development of that network over the past 10 years and assessed why the region is lagging behind other parts of the UK and Ireland at present in terms of infrastructure roll out.

During the webinar key market players including ESB, EasyGo and Weev presented updates of their investment plans with new charging infrastructure in the pipeline for all areas across Northern Ireland and ESB confirmed that they now expected tarriffs to be introduced on their network before the end of Q1 2023.

Donal Monaghan, Project Officer, South West College and Professor Neil Hewitt, Ulster University presented a short update on the FASTER Project and revealed the proposed locations where charging infrastructure would be installed across Northern Ireland.

The guest panel included:

  • Chris Kelly, EasyGo
  • John Byrne, ESB Group
  • Thomas O’Hagan, Weev
  • Jody O’Boyle, Utility Regulator NI
  • Chris Maguire, NIE Networks
  • John Starkey, Department for Infrastructure
  • Anne Artt, Local Government EV Consortium, Derry City & Strabane District Council
  • Mark McCall, EVANI

Thank you to all the panellists for the invaluable insights and contributions to the discussion. Next month’s webinar will explore EV Trends for 2023 and look at issues including EV Safety and Accessibility and further information can be found here.
